Royston Town Vets were comfortable 3-0 winners over a sporting Walkern Vets side at Stevenage on Sunday.
After 15 minutes Peter Leete made the most of a defensive error by Walkern to fire Town into the lead. Town continued to enjoy the lion’s share of ball possession but failed to turn this into goals in the remainder of the first half.
The best move of the match came early in the second half when Leete played in Kevin Barthrop on the right of the penalty area and he struck a fine right foot shot to beat the ‘keeper and extend Town’s lead. Leete then crossed into the 6-yard area and John Moulding scrambled the ball into the net to complete the scoring.
Adam Smith and Paddy Coughlin were outstanding in defence for Town.
