An unconvincing performance on a terrible pitch saw Royston claim three crucial points in their quest for Southern League glory.
The away side arrived at Woodford seeking to improve their goals scored category greatly, however the Reds had other ideas.
The first half saw the Crows plough forward at every opportunity, perhaps slightly nervously trying to find the opening breakthrough. This happened on ten minutes after Matt Standen was put through and the winger scored a glorious goal.
Waves of Royston attacks were held back by a very young but very determined Woodford back line. The difference in the two sides was the extraordinary saves made by the Woodford keeper as he kept the Crows at bay.
The home side offered very little going forward,but had an unexpected breakthrough on 32 minutes after a terrible mistake by Taylor Parr, due largely to a bobbly pitch, allowed Stevenson to nip through and level the scores which brought scenes of jubilation from the home supporters.
Woodford held on to half time sensing an opportunity of recording their first point of the season against a nervous Crows side.
The second half saw more of the same, with Royston attacking and Woodford gallantly defending. The crucial moment of the game came when the home stopper was tumbled over by his own defender. After a lengthy delay in which Royston's very own Kim Burkin-Roberts earnt her money helping out the physio-less home side, the goalkeeper was withdrawn from service and replaced by a midfielder.
Royston capitalised on this with goals from Ryan Ingrey on 68 and 71 minutes shattering the belief of Woodford United. Still the home side battled on and earnt huge respect from both sets of supporters.
The game was ended as a contest on 78 minutes following a wonder shot from Luke Robins, which seems to be the norm from him at the moment!
The whistle brought relief for the away side who had been in some contest despite the flattering scoreline.
Royston will need to be at the races this saturday when they host Ashford Town (Mddx) in their penultimute home encounter of the season.
