This home game saw us a third of the way into the season and it was certainly one of the better performances from the Crows as they dominated this match – especially in the second half – scoring five goals to nil and sending a clear message of intent to all their rival promotion hopefuls.

Steve Castle seems to have found a complimentary blend in his team and they do look to be enjoying their football and the positive results are coming – this compares to some early season games when Castle was visibly searching for the magic formula from his undoubted able squad.

Selection consistency is a factor and one line-up change from last week saw Ryan Ingrey come into the team with Josh Castiglione suffering with a slight hamstring injury. Ingrey as usual, worked hard all game, with his efforts to produce delivery for John Frendo in the first half not quite getting there – but a superb second half display saw him not only improved in supply but scoring two brilliantly taken goals.

A couple of early half chances for the Crows showed immediately home team intent – but Aylesbury had their share of the first half chances – the first being a gifted ball that led to Joe Welch saving with his legs from a low Moles effort. As the Crows prodded again the visitors threatened on 14 minutes, this time with a low drive that Gus Scott-Morriss sliced just over his own bar.

The teams exchanged penalty shouts with the referee not interested in either and Scott Bridges saw his header from a corner deflected just wide on 20 minutes. Welch again was called into action with a decent stop and then an easy catch.

The deadlock was broken on 37 minutes when Scott-Morriss’ corner was headed onto the bar by Adam Murray, the bounce back fell to Dan Brathwaite in the six-yard box who shot goal ward but was blocked in the throng of players – predator Frendo on the goal-line poked it in looking possibly offside but the goal was allowed. 1-0.

Royston switched off slightly giving Aylesbury a chance to equalise just before half time but Welch and his defenders worked hard to keep them out and take their slender lead into the break.

The second half saw the Crows fully switched on and this 45 minutes was some of the best action the Royston faithful had seen this season. Total game domination that produced four good goals.

Ten minutes in and a top class cross by Scott Bridges was met by the in motion Ingrey who executed a fine powerful first time volley across the keeper that slammed nicely into the far side of the Moles goal. 2-0.

Castle used this lead to make changes and we saw all substitutes introduced over a five minute period with Luke Warner-Eley replacing Brathwaite at left back, Danny May on for Scott-Morriss at right back and Frazer John making his home debut coming on for the cautioned Fehmi.

During these changes Crows goalkeeper Welch showed his tremendous ability and agility producing a top class save that tipped the ball over the bar from a fierce Moles drive.

On 67 minutes Frendo was deemed to be suitably impeded challenging for a high bouncing forward ball and a spot kick was awarded which Scott Bridges stepped up to shoot in. 3-0.

Ingrey got his second on 75 minutes with Warner-Eley doing well up the left supplying a deepish cross to be met by the incoming Ingrey who thumped a bullet header into almost the same spot in the goal as his first score – great goal. 4-0.

Two minutes later and Aylesbury had a chance to dirty the Royston clean sheet as Murray fouled in the box and a penalty was awarded. The spot kick was put well wide and this further deflated any visitors meagre spirit.

The home side added a game crowning fifth on 89 minutes with a high ball in again from Warner-Eley, this time a dangerous free-kick that Frendo got the faintest flick off the top of his head that guided the ball through the crowd and into the goal. 5-0.

Sponsor’s man of the match was awarded to Ryan Towner whose running, harrying and total determination, especially in the second half, was influential from the middle of the pitch allowing those around him to flourish.

The crowd went home happy.
