Match | Hullbridge Sports v Royston Town |
Competition | Eastern Junior Alliance: Ingilby Cup (R2) |
Result | Won 3-1 |
Royston Scorers | Webb (pen), Duffin, Charles |
The Under 18's travelled into the furthest regions of Essex to take on Hullbridge Sports and having had little football lately left with a decent victory in what was largely a scrappy game.
On a very difficult playing surface Royston had by the far the better of the first half and won a penalty after just two minutes, George Duffin rounding the keeper and being brought down with Ryan Webb converting the penalty kick. The biggest surprise was that the keeper was completely let off despite the clear last player foul.
Duffin added a second midway through the half with a firm left footed strike from 12 yards and further chances were wasted before the half time interval.
The visitors had the game pretty much settled very early in the second half when Tremayne Charles half volleyed into the net from the edge of the area from a half cleared corner. Jahmell Mullings then hit the post from Ryan Webb's well delivered free kick.
As the expected tiredness crept into Royston's game the hosts gained some much needed initiative late on and scored an 80th minute consolation and were a bit unfortunate not to score a couple more as mistakes and indecisive play became more evident in Royston's play.
The clock beat the hosts and Royston now progress to the Quarter Final stage with a home game versus Lodge Youth next Sunday, 13 March.
