Match | Langford v Royston Town |
Competition | Ridgeons Youth League: West Division |
Result | Lost 4-1 |
Royston Scorers | Burr |
This scoreline was in no way a true reflection of the game as the Young Crows played some of their best football of the season but were punished too many times by lapses of concentration.
Unfortunately it took Royston fifteen minutes to settle against the current league leaders in which time Langford struck twice, firstly from a tap in and then a crisp 20 yard angled drive into the corner. After this period Royston largely dominated and were unquestionably the better side. Despite their persistent probing they just failed to find a cutting edge of the final ball although Jordan Hall did break clear of the home defence once but his effort was blocked by the home keeper.
Large periods of the second half were one-way traffic with Royston passing the ball really well and fully committed to trying to get back into the game. Unfortunately they had a poor half in front of goal with Daniel Bond, Michael Vieira, Ed Brown and Jordan Hall all missing the target when clear on goal and the goalkeeper saved superbly well from Bond on two occasions and also from Hall.
As often happens, The Crows were punished for the missed chances with Langford looking more dangerous on the counter as Royston committed more players forward and a left wing cross was turned in from 16 yards.
Finally the visitors did score with ten minutes remaining, Elliott Burr set up by Matt Brennan from close range. George Duffin then had a goal bound effort blocked with a last ditch lunge before Langford completely deflated the visitors with an injury time fourth from a near post flicked corner.
A disappointing result but a more than encouraging showing from Royston and quite frankly on another day playing like this they would have won the game comfortably.
