Royston defeated a talented Peterborough Northern Star to go five points clear at the top of the Thurlow Nunn League West Division.

The Young Crows made the long trip on Wednesday evening to take part in an entertaining game of football, Connor Malins made his starting debut, Town welcomed back Tom Robson to centre half and Luke Shilton returned from a two week absence.

The game started at a frantic pace with both teams setting out to get the opener and Shilton and Jordan Hall worked together nicely down the right side for Hall to cross for Dejon Mullings to open the scoring as he beat the goalkeeper to the ball to head home. Peterborough's lively strikers forced man of the match Robson to defend many one v one situations well and when called upon Harry Reynolds made a smart one v one save keep his team in ii. However Reynolds could do nothing about the equaliser as a short corner that was not dealt with by Joe Maude and Brad Flanaghan saw Peterborough equalise. Royston did have chances as Hall attempted lob and Jamie Steele free kick fell into the hands of the home keeper.

The management of Royston Town gave some strong words at half time and made three substitutions with Tyrell Stratton looking to make his mark on the season and Toby Jackson and Harry Gair also being welcomed to the game. All three made an immediate impact as Jackson fed a nicely weighted through ball for Stratton to shoot just wide of the keeper's near post. The midfield trio of Jackson, Steele and Gair gained control the game as Royston looked a different, more determined side. Callam Turner was moved from centre half with Matt Brennan coming on for Hall who moved to centre half and Turner made a instance impact as his strength caused all sorts of problems.

Turner was involved in the deciding goal as he fed Shilton who neatly lofted the ball over to Mullings who turned provider as his cross found the head of Turner to send a happy Crows side 15 minutes away from a well fought victory. Moments later Gair could have finished the game as he missed an open net for the miss of the day.

Robson was again involved in some superb one on one situations which he dealt with and when he wasn’t Brennan swept anything up. Reynolds was forced under some pressure in the last few minutes and his handling was top drawer as he claimed some routine crosses and made a smart low save.

The young Crows came away with a deserved victory against a very good Peterborough side who can easily cause upsets in this league.

Manager Jorden Gibson said “I'm very happy with our second half performance, we rose to the challenge in front of us and came away victorious, they (Peterborough Northern Star) were our toughest test of the season and on another day we could have scored a few more. When our application is good we can cause a real threat to teams, our work ethic saw out the game and everyone worked hard tonight and deserved the victory”.
