Garden Walk witnessed goals galore on Wednesday evening as hard-working Chatteris made life very difficult for the Young Crows in a second half turn around performance, with the eventual win keeping Royston top of the league.

Royston went into the game knowing what kind of opposition they were facing but immediately set out on the attack in a positive manner. The players moved the ball swiftly and it was encouraging for the visiting manager to come and praise the way the young boys played football during the game.

Jordan Hall opened the scoring as a beautiful timed through ball from captain Matt Brennan found Hall who fired home. Brennan and the returning Jake Booth had long range efforts go over as they tried to add to the score sheet but despite a fluent range of football being played the Crows couldn’t add to their tally.

Hall got his brace minutes before half time as in-form winger Joe Maude's delightful cross saw him unmarked to add to his tally.

HT 0-0

The introduction of Dejon Mullings and Tyrell Stratton added lots of pace to the front line and Mullings was on hand to score the third after the visiting keeper made a good stop from Stratton before Mullings tapped in.

There's a saying ‘don’t stop until the final whistle goes’ however the Young Crows ignored that and Chatteris gained some hope as goalkeeper Harry Reynolds failed to deal with a cross shot and then moments later a long range ball into the box. With Chatteris on the front foot and a extra amount of confidence soared throughout, eventually, they score the equaliser as Callam Turner weak back pass left Reynolds isolated as the quick forward slotted past to frustrate the Crows.

After this major setback Stratton had a glorious chance to win the game as Hall carefully played the ball to him, but he smashed the wide from 10 yards. Youngster Connor Malins also had a long range effort from the edge of the area superbly blocked.

Royston didn’t give up and but for the keeper again producing a great save onto the post from a Mullings header the game could have gone back in their favour. However, a slice of luck came when Mullings again was on hand for his shot which took a deflection that sent it past a helpless keeper two minutes before the end of the game.

Manager Jorden Gibson commented afterwards: “It was a frustrating second half performance, despite dominating large spells of the game, three lapse of concentration saw us concede and put us under needless pressure. We looked good when we were in control and sometimes it shows what a good team we are to never give up, but we’ll have concentrate for larger periods if we want to do well this year. It's a great compliment when a manager approaches you during the game and praises the way the boys play and that's credit to the amount of work everyone had put in so far”.
