This was a cracking game to watch between two good sides with great intensity and passion throughout and our new look youth side deservedly coming out of it with a narrow victory thanks to an injury time winner.

There was no let up from start to finish as both teams always looked to play fast attractive football with a clear desire to win all be it just the first competitive game of the season.

The Young Crows were the better team in the first half and created good chances with the visiting keeper making a couple of very good saves and Callum Turner unlucky to have a goal ruled out for offside.

Royston deservedly took a 28th minute lead when full back Callum Wilson powerfully headed home a well delivered corner but Deeping Rangers pulled level just 2 minutes later when there forward was allowed a little too much space in the area and his well placed shot took a slight deflection before beating Nathan Godfrey.

The game flowed end to end until just before half time when captain Conor Kilgallon was unlucky to turn an excellent cross into his own net to give Deeping a narrow interval lead.

The visitors had their best spell of the game just after half time in which they hit both the post and crossbar from headers but Royston gradually wrestled control of the game back and their dominance of crucial battles late on was defining.

On 72 minutes The Young Crows levelled when Joe Grossi picked up a loose ball in midfield beating one challenge and firing a great 25 yarder past the well beaten keeper.

The intensity continued and just as a draw looked like the likely outcome a fine counter attack and excellent cross found from the left found Jack Randall at the far post whose downward header found the net.

Great team celebrations ensued after the goal, this was the perfect start for our youth side.

Next Wednesday we host Ramsey Town in another League game, 7:45pm kick off
