Match Royston Town v Ramsey Colts
Competition Thurlow Nunn Youth League: West Division
Result Won 5-2
Royston Scorers Hall(3), Butrimas-Gair, Leighton

Royston's youth team got back to league action after three weeks of cup competition and faced new boys Ramsey Colts from Peterborough. Royston continue to be struck by injury and illness as no fewer than 10 regular were missing, this meant a starting debut for new goalkeeper Daniel Broughton as well as welcoming back Callam Turner, Elliot Burr and Ryan O'Mahony to defence along with Gair to the starting line up.

Royston started brightly and a nicely weighted through ball from Joe Maude found in-form striker Jordan Hall to score the first of his hat trick, Leighton popped up with a goal moments later with a simple tap-in and Hall scored his second of the half 10 minutes before half time with a nice shinned goal into the top corner from 12 yards out.

The young Crows continued to work hard throughout and despite some disjointness showed promised a lot going forward and a defence of Luke Shilton, Turner,  Burr and O'Mahony all looked compact and protected new custodian Broughton who had very little to do in the first half.

HT 3-0

Royston came out of the blocks on fire and a great free kick from Hall completed his hat trick as a free kick from 25 yards was whipped around the helpless wall and past the standing goalkeeper. Ramsey to their credit never gave up and with Burr giving away cheap possession on the edge Broughton was forced into making a fine save, but with no protection Ramsey had a simple tap in. Maude was again ready to assist as his mazy run down the left saw a simple cut back to Gair to fire home to show a positive response. Ramsey continued to push and Broughton was once again called into action to produce a fine low save to his left before Royston this time cleared the danger. Ramsey did get another goal moments before the end of the game.

Manager Jorden Gibson commented afterwards: “Overall I’m pleased with tonight’s results, we played well and despite still having plenty of key players missing the players gave a good account for themselves again> We may have looked disjointed but many positives can be taken out of tonight. I think the lads will be disappointed with conceding the two goals in cheap fashion but they can certainly be delighted with the style of each goal scored.”
