Competition Eastern Junior Alliance: Ingilby Cup (R1)
Result Won 2-1

Romford were the visitors to Garden walk as Royston Under 18s took part in the Ingilby Cup, With Royston missing a number of senior players the squad was made up of largely under 17's and 16’s.

A brace from Daniel Bond was enough to see Town through to the next round.

Romford went on the attack from the first whistle and never gave up to their credit until the end, Royston rode their luck throughout the game and had to be thankful for some poor Romford finishing and good goalkeeping from Harry Williams to keep them in the game.

Royston went a goal down when a simple throw out from Williams, caught captain Marvin Luzinda off guard as the quick forward from Romford raced on to roll the ball past Williams.

Romford continued to dominate the first proceedings and missed some glorious opportunities which they’d later regret, as Shane Carthy picked up a loose ball in the centre and a nicely weighted pass through saw Bond outpace the centre halves and slot the equaliser against the run of play.

Half time 1-1

The second half saw Royston come out and show a bit more determination in their play, Bond and strike partner Jordan Spencer had a chance to get on the score sheet but couldn’t convert, Romford looked dangerous going forward and Williams was called into action making three superb saves to keep his team in the game.

With 15 minutes to go, a free kick wide floated in found Bond who calmly nodded over the keeper to put his side 2-1 up.

Romford continued to press and if not for some poor finishing as well as last ditch tackling from Adam Monti, Luzinda and Luke Reed, Royston could have easily of lost the game.

Full time 2-1

Manager Jorden Gibson commented after the game: "The lads showed excellent character and their work ethic cannot be faulted against Romford who have been the best side we played this season. They fought hard and to be honest we had luck on our side, however sometimes you need that to help win games, they may have missed a hatful of chances but we also missed some glorious opportunity to score."
