Royston Scorers Carthy

An early 12th minute goal from Shane Carthy what was all that divided these two evenly matched sides in a fine spectatcle at Garden Walk on Wednesday evening.

The entire game was really open with both teams trying to play good football but the points went Royston's way and therefore maintaining their top placed position.

Royston started the better and early pressure paid off when Hennessey's corner was flicked on by Pemberton with Carthy volleying into the net from six yards.

Bond and Duffin both went close to adding to that lead but St Neots also had chances with a couple of efforts just off target and 16 yard old goalkeeper Owen Bentley making one superb save low down to his right.

The opening stages of the second half were controlled by St Neots but Royston had the first chance when Duffin broke clear but hit a post.

Royston had to defend well and sometimes desperately. St Neots also had an effort hit a post and Bentley made two more stunning saves to deny them. One close range follow up from Bentley's save was somehow put over the crossbar but the hosts weathered the storm.

A change of formation helped Royston gain more control in the last 20 minutes as they started to get back on top of the game. Luke Hennessey had two chances from Ryan Webb crosses but couldn't get good enough connection on the ball but there was no more clear chances as the game ran its course
