Competition Ridgeons Youth League: West Division
Result Won 2-1
Royston Scorers Webb, Carthy

Royston inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Stotfold in a tight game at Garden Walk on Wednesday evening.

A gale force wind and difficult playing surface made it tough for all the players but t was Royston who started the brighter and by half time had forced a two goal cushion.

Mid way through the half Shane Carthy beat the keeper to a cross and headed into the empty net and shortly after Ryan Webb raced clear and slotted into the corner of the net.

Stotfold rallied before half time and only two fine saves from Daniel Plumb kept them at bay.

The lead could have been extended minutes after the break when Luke Hennessey was bundled over in the box but Ben Worbey's penalty kick came back into play off the crossbar.

A lack of match practice and the increasingly windy conditions in their face made it a backs to the wall job for the rest of the game for the hosts as they had to deal with exerted pressure.

Daniel Plumb continued to make some fine saves and only a wind assisted corner with 20 minutes remaining beat him on the night as his team mates held on for a fine victory.
