Match | Wormley Rovers v Royston Town |
Competition | Eastern Junior Alliance: Beds Division |
Result | Won 3-0 |
Royston Scorers | Charles (2), Carthy |
Second placed Wormley and third placed Royston swapped league positions as the young Crows inflicted a first home loss of the season on their hosts.
A strong wind hardly affected a game where both teams attempted to play on a big pitch and the score line was fully merited at the 90 minute mark.
Royston had better territorial advantage in the first half and definitely had the better chances without scoring.
Daniel Bond twice broke free of the home defence but was denied twice by the keeper and one back pass bobbled over the keeper's foot but went agonisingly just wide.
In defence Mullings, Hodgson, Reed and Robinson were assured and commanding, limiting the home side to little more than half chances.
Royston opened the scoring in the 47th minute when George Duffin made a powerful run down the left side before running into the box and squaring for Tremyane Charles to lash home.
The home side then exerted some considerable pressure on Royston with a number of set plays but the goal was protected superbly and after this period Royston went onto dominate the last 25 minutes.
The game was made easier with a second goal when Daniel Bond played a through ball for Shane Carthy to smash under the onrushing keeper.
The game was made more than safe late on with an identical goal to the first , Duffin breaking free down the left and setting up Charles for an assured finish.
Overall a very good performance from the youngsters with a high work rate ethic
