FC Comets v Royston Town Youth Colts

Competition

Royston Crow Youth Football League U14 Division 2

Result

Lost 3-1

What a funny old game football is, following Royston’s draw and poor performance against neighbours Bassingbourn they put in a great display of pass and move football and lose the game. The match started slowly and neither side could come to terms with the bumpy pitch or the strong breeze. However after a huge clearance from the host’s goalkeeper the Royston defence misjudged the bounce and a Comets striker stole in around the back and prodded the ball into the back of the net leaving the visitors goalkeeper Jack Young with no chance. The game became end to end and Jordan Howe was unlucky not to score after good link up play from Bradley Calvert and man of the match Ryan Morgan. However after another long ball bouncing over the visitors defence Comets scored again. After the break Royston came out with more urgency and really took the game to Comets, after several attempts and near misses the ball was played forward from Josh Toovey for Cameron Smith to lob the keeper from 10 yards for his second goal in two games. Now Royston had their tails up and thought they had equalised when following a mix up between the Comets Keeper and defender the ball seemed to cross the line but the Referee didn’t see it. It was all Royston and after another shot was saved by the hosts keeper Howe put the ball in the back of the net only to see it ruled out (incorrectly) for off-side. With a couple of minutes to the final whistle Royston throwing caution to the wind and pressing the game were caught on the break after the Comets striker finished well to make the final score 3-1.
