As always in the Cup, you never know what your going to get.
Despite intensive internet research, we couldn’t find anything out about Bovingdon and so we went into the match blind. However, we told the lads to fear nothing, play like they can, and make sure they leave the pitch knowing they had done all they could.
As it turned out, Bovingdon are an excellent side. They passed the ball around very well, were strong in defence and gave us little chance.
We didn’t do ourselves too many favours by not doing the simple stuff properly, but in all honesty we would have been hard pressed to get anything from the game.
As it was we quickly found ourselves 6-0 down at half time and all we could do was pick the pieces up at half time. Far too many times the lads had let the opposition take the ball without a solid challenge, and when we took the restart we messed around with the ball too long and got caught in possession.
We talked about this at half time and told the lads to focus for the 2nd half and try to get some respect in the scoreline. To their credit, all the lads upped their game and the second half saw us being much more competitive.
Billy took 2 well taken goals and Lewis A worked hard to pester the defence.
Charlie C in goal never gave up and made a string of excellent saves to keep the score down.
The match finished 11-2 and Bovingdon deserved their victory. Many teams in this competition will be hard pressed to beat them.
Well done to the lads for not giving up, and we can now concentrate on the league J
