A bitterly, cold and windy morning for our away trip to Stevenage. We were expecting a tough game against Fairland’s Youth who are currently sitting 3rd in the league.
A slow start from both teams; the ground was really heavy and Royston struggled to keep possession of the ball and spent the first ten minutes defending.
The first shot at goal came from Fairland’s which saw the ball sail over the top of the cross-bar.
Royston’s first attempt came from Chris which was comfortably caught by the keeper.
Our first goal came from a great strike from Dan which went over the keeper. 0-1 to Royston.
Fairland’s kept pushing at our defence and were unlucky not to score. They had four attempts at goal; one going wide, one hit the cross bar and two saved by Brad.
After a tough first half, Crows started the second half more positively and started playing as a team with some good passing.
A good run by Chris down the wing saw a shot at goal which went just wide of the post. This was shortly followed by a cross from Chris to David but David couldn’t quite get a touch on the ball. This was better play by Crows.
Our second goal was similar to our first. A great long-distance strike from Wilko over the keeper’s head. 0-2 to Royston.
Further shots at goal by Dicko and Chris were saved by the keeper.
Fairland’s got back into the game and scored. Fairland’s 1-Royston 2.
Our third goal came from a good pass from Wilko to David and then to James to find the back of the net. 1-3 to Royston.
Royston kept pushing for a further goal with shots on target from Lewis, Chris, Danny and James.
A much better performance from Crows in the second half.
Final score Royston win 3-1. A further three points for Crows to keep them top of the league with maximum points.
