We made the trip to Goddy for our first league match of the season,Goddy  have won the league and cup double for the last two years so we new it was a tough start. The facilities were fantastic and on a bright warm day perfect for football.

We had fifteen to chose from Richard was not 100% so would start on the bench and AJ was not quite ready but it was good to see Freddie make his debut for us after coming back from injury. We new a little bit about them so lined up accordingly. The warm up was all about focus, we talked about certain things we needed to do before kick off and to make sure we were competitive all over the park.

Both sides started well and the game had a good feel about it, then a set back after 8 minutes when the ref saw a handball in the box, the penilty was converted leaving Robbie with no chance. Our response was fantastic and we enjoyed a really good spell with firstly James R then Rhys forcing the Goddy keeper into two fantastic saves. We also forced a couple of corners and from one Sam had a free header six yards out but the ball went just wide.Goddy had two very good strikers and one put them two up after 20 minutes with what I can only describe as unstoppable strike from out side the area which left Robbie with no chance. That really set us back but we continued to be competitive with out being able to get back into the game. The hammer blow came on half time when the ball over the top caught us out and we now had a mountain to climb.

Although we were 3-0 down I felt we had played quite well in patches but when you are on top against the really good sides you have to take your chances. We all had to show the same commitment as certain players to me were lacking that sparkle especially when they had to make or win tackles. This would now be about belief and could we drag ourselves back into this match.

We started quite slowly and it was Goddy on the front foot and within 5 minutes of the restart they got number four when we once again we were slow to react to the ball over the top. We made some chances and although we continued to try and push forward Goddy were always in control. There fifth came on 65 minutes and once again an unstoppable strike from out side the box from the same player as before although this time I felt we should have shut him down quicker. We kept going until the end but when the ref blew up for full time we were well beaten and had no complaints.

You could see the disappointment in some of there faces I think they all new deep down as good as Goddy are we did not do ourselves justice and are a better team than the one that turned up today. We now have to stick together work hard at training and make sure we learn from this experience, one massive positive from today was the debut from Freddie he was one of only a few that did themselves justice he showed all the qualities I expect from my team and it really was a top class debut.
