Royston Town Youth U16 Celtic (formerly Royston Celtic Greens) got their season under way with a fine away win against Letchworth GCE Whites in the Royston Crow Youth League Cup.
Celtic put their foot down from the first whistle and took the game to the home side penning them in their half for the opening ten minutes and thereafter for long periods of the first half. This pressure was rewarded after 16 minutes when Danny cut in from the wing and unleashed a drive which the home keeper couldn’t stop. On a couple of occasions before the break Celtic went close again with Ben F and Ben R both looking threatening up front.
The second half produced a more even contest as Letchworth committed more players going forward and got stronger towards the end. However, the Celtic defence was marshalled by man-of-the-match Ethan and a key statistic was that debutant Celtic keeper Sam whilst having a strong game did not have to make even a single direct save.
