Royston went into this game on the back of three straight defeats but knowing that their performances deserved a lot more. After a slow start Royston showed their class with some scintillating football, passing and moving the ball around with great effect. Several chances came and went when man of the match Cameron Smith won the ball on the left and sent in a perfect cross for Jordan to score from six yards. Cameron and Jamie’s pace was causing the Blues problems and when the latter found the former who raced into the box only to be fouled by the home keeper. The resulting penalty was calmly despatched by Troy. Royston began to control the game and they seemed that they could pick their moment when to score, and they didn’t have to wait long when after good play by Tom McG found Jamie on the right who whipped in a superb cross which was met by a thunderous header from Bradley. Into the second half and Royston continued to press forward and should have gone further in front when chances from Ryan, Jordan, Cameron and Harry went narrowly wide or over. Unfortunately Blues had a player sent off for a vicious kick to a Royston defender in an off the ball, unprovoked incident. Ten man Blues continued to try and score however the visitor’s defence of Owen, Josh, Troy, Conor and later Ryan gave them no chance. Jordan added to the score when he won the ball in midfield and curled the ball into the top corner from 20 yards. With the Blues beginning to tire Royston were on the attack again, this time Tom McG sent a ball over the top for Cameron to run on to and he skilfully pushed the ball past the home keeper only to be upended again to win Royston their second penalty of the game. In a show of truly fantastic team spirit every player pointed for their Goal Keeper, Jack, to take it. After what seemed to be an age up Jack stepped and confidently lashed the ball in to the back of the net to give Royston their best team performance victory and a much deserved clean sheet.
