Hertfordshire Girls Football Partnership League U10 Division 2

The Watford Gap is not as big as the score suggests.

Royston girls U10s travelled to Watford for this latest Div 2 fixture and found themselves under pressure as Watford deployed a tactic of leaving their sticker up front at all times. This worked for the home side as they quickly scored 2 goals. Royston made some tactical changes and some excellent defending from Taiah and Emma now restricted Watford’s attacking options. This allowed Royston to get foothold in the game with the busy Emer and Aimee up front causing Watford defence problems. With Ellie controlling the midfield for the visitors it was Royston who finished the half the stronger.

Royston came out for the second half with Olivia now pushed forward keeping the Watford defenders occupied while Izzy worked hard in the middle of the park. With Amy and Lydia now man marking er I mean girl marking Royston were holding their own until a goal line clearance from Kathryn unfortunately came back off Izzy and crept over the line. This seemed to knock Royston back and Watford capitalised with another attack which Lydia Webb did well to save, but unfortunately she was not the goalkeeper so a penalty was awarded. Emer in goal had no chance with the penalty as Watford increased their lead. Royston continued to try to get a consolation goal and were unlucky as Katie run and shot came back off the post. With Royston now pushing forward their defence was exposed and Watford were able to score 2 more to leave the final score 6-0.
