Man of Match

Lewis A – scared the opposition with his pace and worked hard

A simple word that describes the painful lessons we learnt at Stortford.

They were better than us, that is true. But 12 goals better ? I think not.

There are excuses that we can make. Sickness, unavailability, no shows again, only 11 players on the day. But ultimately, this result was more about what our players did not do, rather than what the opposition did do.

We were without our regular goalkeeper, so Jack stood in and did well despite the torrent of shots against him. It would be easy to single out our defenders as the weak link, but in truth no one showed up today. They all let themselves down with a very below par performance.

Charlie Alsop scored a well-taken goal in our highlight of the first half. I am sure it will be the first of many for this skilful midfield player.

Lewis Anderson ran his socks off up front, but could do little more without the support from midfield.

So, we learn the lesson that we must work as a team, tackle harder, commit ourselves to wanting the ball and move on to the next match.

There will not be many harder teams to play and hopefully no worse performance from the team.

We are better than this. We just need to believe that and not accept defeat so easily.
