After a stinging defeat in our previous match, we needed a big performance in this bottom of the table clash with Pin Green.

The sun was out, the sky was blue but the wind was whipping down the length of the pitch and with us playing into the wind first half, we knew we had to keep the scores as level as possible till the break.

Lewis Anderson led the attack and was instantly terrorising the Pin Green defence with his pace. Tom and Charlie A were also doing their stuff on the wings and we had the better of the opening chances and took the lead from a Tom goal at the far post. However, Pin Green came back strongly and were using the wind to their full advantage. It was only some inspired defence from both Jamies, Lewis W and Stephen that kept them at bay.

The one lapse we did have cost us the lead. The Pin Green midfield held the ball up, and moved to the edge of the box. For some reason no-one decided to close them down and they had a long range shot that gave Charlie Catton no chance in goal. This seemed to galvanise Pin Green and they had the better of things till half time. However, we held firm and kept it 1 –1 at the break.

The half time talk was simple. Use the wind, use our pace, and close them down when they have the ball.

Without exception, the lads stepped up and did the business! Jamie P was like a man possessed in defence and took the ball forward at every opportunity. Jack D, playing back with the Eagles, slotted in perfectly and we had the vast majority of possession for the whole half.

A series of corners forced an error from the Pin Green defence and we were up 2-1. Shortly after Jamie P headed in to make it 3-1 from another corner.

For the rest of the match we were never troubled and saw out to the end with relative ease.

All the lads played well and put the effort in that proves we can compete in this league.

Well done to all! Smiles on faces and a first league win of the season.
