On a perfect day for football we invited Burwell Tigers to play in our last league game at the home of legends – Garden Walk – Royston Town FC’s home ground. With the spirit of former first team players – Galvin, Butcher, Tyler, Easley, Dobson – Joff not Simon obviously – urging us on we wanted this last game of the season to be special for the boys. We even had first team manager Paul Attfield referee for us!!

Similar to our last game we had the majority of possession and created the more chances but never really hit top gear. The team started powerfully and they notched very early with a cool finish from the impressive Jordan latching onto a perfect Mick through pass. 1-0. If our finishing had been more clinical and perhaps with a bit more luck in front of goal we would have scored three more early in this game – as it was the half finished with just the one goal scored.

The second half was slightly better as the boys, defending brilliantly, kept the Burwell lads on the back foot and continued to create good efforts on goal. The second goal came from another Mick set up with Adam finishing it off in style. 2-0. The third was a really good footballing move with Adam finding Mick who drove on to the left hand side by-line crossing well for Jordan to tap in. 3-0, and the fourth was a superbly executed lob shot finish by Mick after Adam had done good work on the left.

Great defending from Jonah, Tom, Kyle, Olly and Joe along with some redundant but alert goalkeeping from George kept the team’s fourth consecutive clean sheet and this is a really positive way to finish the season.

Committed midfield work by Callum, Jake and Keiran kept the forward moves going and attacking surges from the speedsters Jordan, Adam and Lewis gave good support to the hard work from Mick – who on another day could have scored 5.

Great stuff fellas – We hope you all enjoyed the experience.
