It was a bit “after the lord mayor’s show” with the boy’s putting in a fragmented and below par performance on a breezy and overcast Wednesday evening but still did enough to win by three goals to nil and keep a clean sheet.

Mid-week games are never great as the boys have obviously had full days at school, have done other sports during the day and are not able to give their usual 100%. It is the same for both teams and at least we were playing at home taking out the travel factor.

It was a scrappy first half with Royston creating the more chances, but the only goal coming two minutes in with Callum pouncing on a lost ball in the six yard box and powering low through the melee. 1-0.

The boys worked hard but their final pass didn’t quite happen tonight and when shots were made they went wide or high.

The second half was slightly better with Royston on top for most of the half but it took twenty further minutes before Jordan relieved the pressure running on to a good pass and burying a low firm shot past the decent keeper. 2-0. Olly made it three 5 minutes from time with a volley from a half cleared Keiran corner. 3-0.

Well done to everyone – you kept at it even if it wasn’t quite happening and sometimes games are like this. A well earned three points, three goals and another clean sheet – that is three in a row which is great – we appreciate your commitment and hopefully you can all demonstrate some of your high quality football in our last game of the season against Burwell at Garden Walk on Sunday. The win tonight secures runners up position for Royston Town Youth Colts in the top division of the Cambs League and barring a disaster from Teversham in their last two games that will probably be where we finish up.
