We welcomed St Albans to the Heath on a chilly and misty morning for a Herts FA County Cup match.

We believed St Albans to be a good side and prepared the boys for a tough game.

We weren’t wrong – St Albans were strong in all departments, extremely competitive all over the pitch and fast upfront. The boys struggled hard to get a foothold in the first half and found themselves 4-0 down at the break.

We asked the boys to regroup, play with pride and see if we could get something out of the second half. We had taken a couple of knocks and both Jonah and Keiran were sidelined leaving us with the bare eleven.

The boys couldn’t have made us more proud with the way they responded and the way they took the game to St Albans. All eleven played brilliant attacking football, competed for every ball and created a number of good chances on goal – The St Alban’s goalie played really well making a series of fine stops and if it wasn’t for him the score-line would have been closer. The pressure paid off and Olly pulled one back   heading home from a Mick corner. St Albans responded well and scored again and with the cup game becoming more stretched added another near the end.

Yes we were beaten – but beaten by a very good side. If the boys take the brilliant attitude, full on effort, total determination and superb football ability that they showed in the second half into every league game they play in for the rest of the season there will not be many teams that beat us again.

Keep your chins up – you did us proud.
