The disappointments from the previous week were quickly banished by a much improved Royston performance.

Royston came into this fixture with only 12 players, one only passed fit to take part minutes before kick off. Despite their lack of numbers, from the 1st whistle the young Crows showed their intent, quickly closing down the visitors and denying them time and space. Defensively Royston looked strong and organised as a unit, especially when you consider the number of players playing in unfamiliar positions. With Skipper for the day Josh & Matt the only recognised defenders in the starting line up, a lot would be asked of both and neither shied from the responsibility. Ellis started as right back and did exactly what was asked of him, win the ball, move it on quickly and make yourself available for the return pass and not forgetting Kye, a make shift centre half, I DON’T THINK SO, looked superb.   New keeper for this season, Connor L, looked like he had played there for years, giving instruction & information to his team mates at every opportunity, and with James (making his 1st start of the season) playing just in front of the back four, it would be hard for Arlesey to break them down.

When Royston had the ball, they tried to get it down and play at every opportunity and it was Catterall who had the first chance, crashing a bullet header against the bar from a Mason corner. Mason was having the game of his life and it was he who opened the scoring, the ball fed neatly from mid-field by Connor G for Mason to latch onto and fire home.

Royston made their one and only change with Jack coming on for Ellis.

Arlesey started the 2nd period much brighter and began to cause the home side a few problems, mainly at set pieces. It was from one of these that the visitors nearly drew level, a free kick out on the left flank was driven in, evaded the defence but luckily for Royston, also the Arlesey forward.

The Crows slowly regained their composure and the game swung back in their favour, it was not long before the lead was doubled. A sweet move from a free kick on the half way line was taken short by Kye to Josh, who drove the ball wide to Mason , his first touch took him away from his marker, his second a rasping shot towards goal looked like it would tear a hole in the net, only to see it canon off the foot of the post, everyone stopped as the ball bounced in the area, everyone that is except Austin whose quick reactions earned him his 1st goal for the team.

Arlesey, to their credit, still wouldn’t give up and managed to pull one back close to the end, a ranging ball from left to right, to which the hosts reacted far to slowly, found the visitors striker one on one with the keeper and slot coolly past Connor L.
