What a funny old game football is, last week Royston more than matched their opponents in every department and came out with a well deserved draw and it felt like a victory. Today they played the bottom of the table team and won 3-0 but it somehow felt like a defeat.
The game started brightly with Royston taking the game to BSCFC, and after only a minute gone Cameron S raced through the visitors defence to shoot narrowly wide. Chance after chance came and went until Bradley C found Cameron S with a precise through ball who then lobbed the goalie from 12 yards. This didn’t settle Royston as much as was hoped and BSCFC could have equalised just two minutes later but Royston Keeper Jack Y raced out and smothered the ball bravely. Royston still continued to create chances from a goal kick Harry B pounced onto a loose ball and squared the ball for Cameron S to calmly find the back of the net from 18 yards. BSCFC continued to play some good football but were undone again just before the end of the first half when another superb corner from Jordan H found Josh T who chipped the ball back in for Jamie O’C to head home. The second half started with a flurry of attacks from the visitors but the defence of Owen R, Josh T, Troy M and man of the match Conor E held firm. Royston could have added to their score, firstly when a fine run and shot from Tom McG thumped the crossbar and then when Cameron S ran in from the right with only the keeper to beat made his only mistake of the game when he took his eye off the ball and mis-hit his shot.
