We welcomed Aldenham Eagles from the Watford Friendly League which is a very tough league so we expected a hard match today. Todays winners would progress to the last sixteen which is know mean feat.
With three players out with injury we had thirteen to choose from and after last weeks disappointment we just wanted to go back to basics keep it simple and play with our heads and not try and force things.
Within thirty seconds we had them on the back foot, Ben put the full back under pressure and won a corner.AJ's delivery was perfect and as he so often does Rhys lost his marker and headed home for a dream start. This settled us down and we continued to press them and make chances although we seemed a little nervous in front of goal and when we got in good positions pour delivery let us down. Aldenham were playing on the break but did work a chance on thirty minutes which produced a fantastic save from Robbie to keep our lead. We swapped chances both missing the target and we had to settle for a 1-0 advantage at half time.
A good first half performance but we needed that second goal, we needed to be more clinical in front of goal and show more quality in the final third and we still wanted more chat.
We started the half really strong and kept pressing and had a real good tempo about us. We got that all important second goal when Richard found Ross who in turn passed the ball to Rhys he took the ball on his chest and ran through the keeper saved his first effort but Rhys followed up. We continued to dominate the game and were playing some really good stuff which was so pleasing after last week. The third goal was a fantastic long pass from Richard which Rhys latched on to and lobbed the on rushing goal keeper for his hattrick. You could now see the confidence flow back we were enjoying our football and curving them open time after time although we were unlucky with Ross hitting a post and going close after another flowing move. We did score a fourth another AJ corner caused panic in the Aldenham goal and when the ball fell to Ben he touched it back for Richard to score a deserved goal, 4-0 was the score at the final whistle and it was us who moved into the last sixteen of the county cup.
A fantastic second half performance which saw us play some really good football and have that hunger and desire, every boy played there part the defence Robbie, Matt, Ali, Jack and Eamon were solid the attack Rhys another hatrick Ross and Ben were Sharpe and the midfield Jack O, Richard, AJ, Bradly and James B bright, A special mention for AJ and Richard who were not only intelligent on the ball but also showed maturity in the way they played there roles they compliment each other and there understanding of each other is excellent. We all look forward to training this week with a spring in our step.
