Drew 0-0

Our last game of the season and we welcomed relegation threatened Lea Sports, we played on the towns ground which is always nice for the boys although because of the weather we had seen over the last couple of days the pitch was not at its best.

We had all sixteen to choose from but it was clear two or three were carrying knocks.

We still had something to play for as three points would give us a great chance of finishing third but Lea Sports also needed at least a point to give them any chance of staying up. We needed to show all the good parts of our two games with Buntingford and make sure we played with confidence and to be patient as this would be a tough game.

We started ok and you could see that Sports had set up to frustrate us they packed the midfield and played with one up front, but they were not the first team to do this against us so we had to stay focused. We had lots of the ball but were finding it hard to make any clear cut chances some of this was down to our decision making and some down to lack of penetration in the final third. Our first real chance fell to Callum but during the scramble he headed over from close range and to be fair to Sports apart from long range efforts we did not trouble them, so we went in at 0-0 at half time.

We were pleased in some of the football we were playing on a difficult pitch but we could see the frustration especially towards the end of the half when we were shooting to far out and it was more in hope than expectation, we just wanted them to relax and we were sure if we went in front we would win the game.

We were a bit sluggish for the first ten minutes and Sports had more of the ball although their shots were all from out side the box and did not trouble Robbie in goal. We continued to press and another chance this time feel to James R but his effort went wide. With ten minutes left we went three at the back and pushed another one up front but I think we new the out come especially when AJ’S twenty five yarder beat the keeper all ends up only to hit the in side of the post and get cleared away, it was not our night and Sports held on for a deserved draw they had worked their socks off and the two centre half’s had been superb for them all night.

The boys came into the dressing room and were so disappointed but I told them not to be, although we were no wear near our best we had and did play some good football tonight. The effort was their for all to see but tonight was not going to happen for us. I thanked them all for their hard work during the season and the maturity they were showing as a team on and off the pitch which included training.

So another season draws to an end, we still have to wait for Welwyn to play their last game so we are still not sure if we finished third or fourth. If you look at the table you will see we have finished roughly twenty points behind who ever wins the league but although it sounds a lot I truly believe we are a lot closer than that, and we had such bad luck with injuries and although we might not have won it with out them set backs the gap would not have been so big I am sure of that. Lots of highs and a few lows but I can not fault this group of players I want to thank them all for this season and once again with hand on heart I have enjoyed every minute. Lastly thanks to the parents your continued support is appreciated
