A sunny morning greeted us at Folwmere as we welcomed Comberton for a league match we had already played them twice winning one in the cup and drawing one in the league they were sitting in mid table but as we already know on there day they will give anyone a match, like us they like to play football the right way so a good open game was on the cards. The pitch was ok and apart from Richard and Jack M we had a full squad to choose from which included new signing George.

We wanted to continue with all the good aspects and positives we took from the Celts game which included working hard to close down the ball good decision making and quality of passing and options to the player with the ball.

We started very well and were passing the ball well and looking bright all over the pitch although the foot wear one or two were wearing meant that they were losing there footing in good areas. We were creating situations but due to good Comberton defending could not find that killer pass.Comberton were happy to soak up pressure then break quickly so defensively we always had to be switched on. What turned out to be the winning goal was scored on twenty minutes and it was a goal worthy to win any match,AJ picked up the ball in the middle of the park and found Rhys out wide who played it back to him first time and then AJ played it back to him first time between the defender Rhys then played a delightful ball to the back post where James R had timed his run to perfection and from an angle seven yards out volleyed the ball into the back of the net leaving the keeper no chance this really was an excellent team goal.Comberton did react and started to push forward with purpose one attack was halted by a Freddie challenge which resulted in a free kick just out side the box, the free kick took a deflection of the wall which forced Robbie into an excellent save to keep our lead. We had more possession of the ball but at half time only had a slender 1-0 lead.

We had played quite well in stages and looked solid at the back and the message was lets keep it up and get that second goal we would have the wind with us so we had to make sure passes were not over hit, descison making would be key and we just had to made sure we did not get over confident especially when playing out from the back.

The second half followed exactly the same pattern as the first we had most of the possession but Comberton were never out of the game, there keeper made some good saves from Sam and Rhys and one excellent save from George,AJ tried his luck from distance as did Jack O but we just could not get that second goal. The back four and Robbie in goal were largely un troubled and at the final whistle we had won 1-0 and were deserved winners of a good football match.

A great winning goal, a clean sheet and a good performance is the way I would sum up today and I was very happy overall, with two games to go we still have an out side chance to win or come runners up in the league and that is why its important we all stay focused on these games and nothing else.
