We travelled to Ely to play Littleport in our second group game in the
League cup, it poured with rain all the way there until we arrived at the
venue then it stopped and the sun came out! Another nice pitch in
excellent condition, perfect for football.

We had thirteen to choose from due to injuries and a school trip. We
wanted to play at a good tempo and keep the ball on the floor, we wanted
them to play with confidence and pass the ball with purpose, we had to be
strong in the tackle and make the right decisions on the ball.

We started really well and looked sharp and bright on the ball and the
chances soon came but we were up against an excellent keeper who kept the
score level. You start to think is it going to be one of them days when
first Bradleys goal bound effort was some how headed off the line then
James R long range effort hit the bar. Rhys had to come off due to
breathing problems so Richard came on and went up front, straight away he
made an impact he collected a short pass from Callum then with still a
lot to do beat two players before hitting a shot the keeper did well to
stop but Richard followed up and we took a deserved lead.Littleport had
a lively forward of there own and within five minutes they were level
with there first real attack of the game, it was poor defending from us from
the moment the ball was played up to him but he finished well and it was
back to all square. The half time whistle went and some how the scores
were level.

We had passed the ball really well and it was only when we got into the
final third we made either wrong decisions or were let down by the final
pass, also we were not moving the ball quick enough when we had the
chance and this was slowing things down, and we were not closing them
down quick enough and we asked the boys to hunt in packs and be positive
in that final third.

All things taken on board the boys soon regained the lead and once again
Richard was involved a great pass to Rhys (who was ok to come back on) and
he finished well. We soon scored again when good work by Rhys found James
R and his pin point cross was meet on his head by Richard and we were
now looking comfrotable. The boys were doing all the things we had asked
at half time and if it were not for some excellent saves from the keeper
especially from Richard, Sam and Rhys we would have scored even more. We
did score a fourth when James R pass found Sam and he scored. The icing
was put on the cake when AJ's cross was flicked on by Sam and there was
Rhys to fire home our fifth. A good performance was brought to an end and
in the end we ran out comfortable winners.

I was pleased with today’s performance the boys took on board the
constructive criticism at half time and reacted in a positive way and at
times today played really good positive football and deserved the margin
of victory.

I have to mention two boys today firstly Richard who has had such bad
luck with injuries this season who when he came on was instrumental to this
victory you could tell within seconds of him coming on that he was up
for it and Freddie who shows all the qualities any manager looks for in
players not only is he good on the ball but he also loves the physical
side of the game and he's performance again today was excellent.
