The first friendly of the season for the start of our campaign as Royston Town, we also had three new signings making their debuts and had a squad of sixteen to chose from with just one still on holiday,
The boys have been training twice a week and we could tell they could not wait to get started.
We started very brightly and took the lead on two minutes with a flowing move down the right involving James R and Sam, which was well finished off by Rhys. We never gave Sawston a sniff and number two came shortly after with Sam finishing nicely from a pass from Rhys, Sawston did respond but never really got near to a shot on target. We made all five subs on twenty minutes and still continued to dominate and number three came courtesy of one on the new lads Bradley who finished smartly after another good passing move down our right.
Half time and 3-0 it really was a case of more of the same.
We continued to pass well with AJ and Richard pulling the strings in midfield and kept creating chances and one of those was converted with 20 minutes left after a great pass from James R found Ross and he placed his shot in the corner of the net for our fourth. To their credit Sawston never gave up and forced Robbie into two excellent saves to make sure we kept a clean sheet.
We were really pleased with the boys they showed hunger and appetite for this game and all contributed in some way, they passed the ball at times really well but they know as well as us that we still need to work on things before our opening league game.
