Date Saturday 16 July 2013
Match Ampthill Town v Royston Town
Competition Pre-Season Friendly
Result Won 3-1
Royston Scorer Theobald, Bryant, Cambridge

This was another good workout for The Crows against opposition expected to challenge for honours in the South Midlands Premier Division this season. Again Paul Attfield was without numerous players due to holidays so a smallish 14 man squad made the trip to what is always a good venue to visit.

Both teams attempted to get the ball down and play at a brisk tempo with The Crows looking particularly impressive going forward in the first half and both Ryan Ingrey and Craig Hammond had early shots bringing fine saves from the home keeper.

Ampthill played a full part in what was an entertaining affair and caused The Crows a few problems with crosses into the box but keeper George Lawton was largely untroubled as he finds his feet at his new club.

Royston took a 16th minute lead from a set play. Adie Cambridge whipped in good delivery that found its way to Dave Theobald who turned in home from close range.

The lead was doubled fifteen minutes later when some good approach play from Ryan Ingrey and Craig Hammond set up a close range finish for the impressive Mitchell Bryant to convert.

Half time substitutions and frequent second half rotation effected the second half quality slightly as both teams tired but effort never waivered and The Crows still threatened on occasions with moments of good quality.

Mitchell Bryant was unlucky to see a goal disallowed for offside when he converted a rebound off a post but not to be denied his run and pull back saw Adie Cambridge convert and angled 12 yard strike to the far corner to complete Royston's scoring mid way through the half.

The hosts scored a deserved consolation late on with a fine 16 yard half volley effort but early signs are promising for The Crows with a number of players still to return to the squad
