It took an extra time period but The Crows eventually overpowered their Division One opposition and deservedly progressed to a semi final tie against either Oxhey Jets or Hoddesdon Town.

Cockfosters belied their lowly league position with a recent management and hence player personnel changes and played a full part in an entertaining game.

On chances created Royston should have had the game well wrapped up by the 90 minute mark but the failure to kill off the tie allowed the Cockfosters team to force extra time.

The first half was pretty even with The Crows struggling to find the same vigour they did in Saturday's win against Tring. Possession was often given away a little too easily and whilst Cockfosters had some decent skill and pace going forward both defences stayed mainly on top.

Paul Attfield gave a debut to former Hatfield Town captain John McGrandles after he served a previous three match ban from his former club and he looked assured in his 65 minute outing.

Ricky Young had Royston's first opening when he ran onto a ball in the area but his angled shot was blocked by the keeper. Bobby Dance ran onto another through ball but a last ditch tackle was superbly timed before he executed his finish. John McGrandles and Dance had the best chances of the half when a well directed header and 20 yard fierce shot were superbly turned away at full stretch.

Against the run of play Cockfosters took a 40th minute lead when a high free kick was not defensively dealt with allowing a simple header at the far post.

The lead lasted just 30 seconds as straight from kick off Royston broke down the left and the resulting cross found the head of Bobby Dance who found the corner from ten yards.

Level at the break Royston returned with a much more superior second half performace. The side looked fit and vibrant and had no fewer than four chances from head and foot cleared off the line.

Midway through the half they did find the goal when Bobby Dance found the net from the penalty spot after a hand ball in the area but again against the run of play Cockfosters hit a great equaliser when a long ball eluded the home back line allowing a forward to crack in a fierce 20 yard effort past Jorden Gibson.

That was enough to force extra time but Royston continued to press and had the game sewn up within just six extra time minutes.
In the first minute Tom Malins had been taken out by the keeper in the area with Dance scoring with great precision from the spot and the striker scored his fourth of the game just a minute later when he converted Ryan Lockett's cross with a far post volley.

Liam McDevitt headed in a 96th minute Lockett corner from eight yards and despite some second period rallying from the visitors in which they hit the crossbar Tom Malins completed the scoring midway through the period with a high lob over the advancing keeper and into the empty net on the break.
