SEVEN UP FOR CROWS IN FA CUP

ROYSTON TOWN FC v ROTHWELL CORINTHIANS FC

Saturday 7th September 2019

Royston Town’s higher league status showed in this goal-laden cup-tie against Rothwell Corinthians. The visitors started the livelier showing their eagerness and the Crows struggled to find any foothold or quality for the first 15 minutes. The game got going for the home team on 18 minutes when striker Brandon Adams capitalised on a defender/keeper mix up and sneaked in to poke the ball home. The Corinthians stuttered from then on as the Crows stepped up a gear. The lead was doubled on 32 minutes as the outstanding Matt Bateman ran on to a Scott Bridges pass and slotted in confidently. Six minutes later and it was three with Bateman latching on to a loose ball in the six-yard box after a well-worked corner move. Half Time 3-0.

It took the Crows 14 minutes into the second half to increase their advantage with Bateman setting up Adams to get his second and Adams got his third from the penalty spot on 62 minutes after Bateman was felled in the box. The Corinthians pulled one back from their own penalty as Ed Asafu-Adjaye was adjudged to have fouled and Rothwell substitute Adefolarin Ademidum made no mistake from the spot on 67 minutes. Number six for Royston came from a Spyros Mentis pass and the speedy Claudio Ofosu beat the offside shout to score well on 79 minutes. Corinthians got a second on 90 minutes from Nathan Bobowicz – but there was still time for the Crows to add another when Joe Newton swung a free kick in for Adam Murray to glance a diving header past Ashley Bodycote in the Rothwell goal. Full-Time 7-2.
