CROWS COME UNSTUCK AGAINST JAMMERS

ROYSTON TOWN FC v MALDON & TIPTREE FC

Saturday 19th October 2019

A club record attendance of 1152 saw Maldon & Tiptree run out deserving winners, as they extinguished Royston’s hopes of a first-ever venture into the first round proper of the FA Cup.

The Crows started brightly and nearly took the lead on 7 minutes, as a thumping half volley strike from Scott Bridges rattled the Jammers post. However, it was Maldon who took the lead midway through the half, as the unfortunate Dan Brathwaite could only turn a dangerous cross from Al-Amin Kazeem into his own net.

The lead was doubled on the half-hour mark, as Dan Parish was on hand at the back post to tap in William Cracknell’s cross-shot.

Royston re-grouped at half time and again came out the stronger side. 2 minutes into the half Bridges saw another effort hit the woodwork and it was not long before they found a way back into the game. On 55 minutes a high, hanging Bridges corner was met by the head of Ben Martin and powered into the net.

Royston’s tails were up now and they hit the woodwork for a third time, as substitute Josh Castiglione saw his left-footed effort rebound off the inside of the post. But this was as good as it got for the Crows as a game-clinching strike from Jorome Slew in the 68th minute took the wind out of the home sides sails.

From there on in Maldon saw time out without alarm and in the process created their own bit of history by reaching the first round proper for the first time.
