NEW SIGNING DAWODU IMPRESSES ON CROWS DEBUT

Royston Town are pleased to formally announce the signing of Josh Dawodu. Josh is a promising talent, with a blend of experience gained both within and outside the league. His football journey started at the academy of Premier League, Arsenal FC, where he spent a decade before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 2017. He signed his first professional contract with the Owls in 2018.

Josh established himself as a dynamic right-back. Whilst at Wednesday he delivered some great performances, earning him recognition as a pivotal figure within the Owls’ Under-23 and youth squads. Notably, he contributed significantly to Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-18s’ double-winning campaign in 2018/19, clinching both league and cup titles at the youth level. His progress earned him a second professional contract extension in 2021.

Whilst at Hillsborough he spent some time on loan at Stalybridge Celtic in October 2021. Dawodu thrived in the competitive landscape of the Northern Premier League (step 3), amassing four assists across ten appearances. He returned to Hillsborough in January 2022 and was released by Wednesday in July 2022. He was quickly snapped up by Hendon FC in August 2022, making 39 appearances and winning their Young Player of the Year award. This season Josh has appeared for Braintree Town,  Wingate & Finchley and most recently Kingstonian.

Crows gaffer, Chris Watters commented on Josh’s arrival,

“With Dequane suffering a freak injury against Mickleover we had to move quickly and bring in another right back. I’m really pleased that we have been able to get Josh in. As he proved on Saturday with a Supporters Man of The Match performance against Halesowen I’m sure he’ll be an exciting addition to the group we’re building here at Garden Walk. “
